JavaFX Controls and ComboBox
The ComboBox class creates a control that allows the user to select an option from a drop-down list of options. The drop-down list appears when the user clicks on the ComboBox control. When the number of options exceeds the size of the drop-down window, the user can scroll down to further options. This differs from the ChoiceBox which is primarily used when the number of choices is a relatively small set. Import Statement javafx.scene.control.ComboBox Constructors The ComboBox class has two constructors depending on whether you want to create an empty ComboBox object or one populated with items. To Create an Empty ComboBoxComboBox fruit new ComboBox(); To create a ComboBox object and populate it with String items from an ObservableList ObservableList fruits FXCollections.observableArrayList( Apple, Banana, Pear, Strawberry, Peach, Orange, Plum);ComboBox fruit new ComboBox(fruits); Useful Methods If you create an empty ComboBox object you can use the setItems method. Passing an ObservableList of objects will set the items in the Combobox. ObservableList fruits FXCollections.observableArrayList( Apple, Banana, Pear, Strawberry, Peach, Orange, Plum);fruit.setItems(fruits); If you want to add items to the ComboBox list later on you can use theà addAll method of the getItems method. This will append the items to the end of the options list: fruit.getItems().addAll(Melon, Cherry, Blackberry); To add an option to a particular place in the ComboBox option list use the add method of the getItems method. This method takes an index value and the value you wish to add: fruit.getItems().add(1, Lemon); Note: The index values of the ComboBox start at 0. For example, the above value of Lemon above will be inserted into the ComboBox option list at position 2 as the index passed is 1. To pre-select an option in the ComboBox options list, use the setValue method: fruit.setValue(Cherry); If the value passed to the setValue method is not on the list, then the value will still be selected. However, it does not mean this value has been added to the list. If the user subsequently picks another value then the initial value will no longer be in the list to be selected. To get the value of the currently selected item in the ComboBox, use the getItems method: String selected fruit.getValue().toString(); Usage Tips The number of options normally presented by the ComboBox dropdown list is ten (unless there are less than ten items in which case it defaults to the number of items). This number can be changed by using the setVisibleRowCount method: fruit.setVisibleRowCount(25); Again, if the number of items in the list is less than the value set in the setVisibleRowCount method the ComboBox will default to displaying the number of items in the ComboBox dropdown. Handling Events To track the selection of items on a ComboBox object you can use the addListener method of the selectedItemProperty method of the SelectionModel to create a ChangeListener It will pick up the change events for the ComboBox: final Label selectionLabel new Label();fruit.getSelectionModel().selectedItemProperty().addListener( new ChangeListener() { public void changed(ObservableValue ov, String old_val, String new_val) { selectionLabel.setText(new_val); }});

The Best Family Values Policy Platform Essay - 1603 Words
After obtaining my recent degree in Anthropology from the University of Georgia and securing a job as a campaign assistant for a candidate running for U.S. senate, I have been assigned the task to help my candidate write the best family values policy platform he can. To accomplish this goal, I have interviewed one participant, nineteen-year-old Brandon, about his kinship system. This will help me gather information on the social issues of a family and family values. To give you a quick introduction, Brandon is my boyfriend and someone who I have known for almost a year. I am quite familiar with his family. Brandon grew up in a single-parent home after his parents divorced when he was six. They are not alone here; in 2012, there were 11.2 million single-parent households documented (BOOK pg 366). In this home, he was raised primarily by his mother, and lived there along with his older sister Chrissy Dale. Brandon has a bilateral descent group, meaning the relationships in his family a re recognized through both his mother and fathersââ¬â¢ sides of the family (LECTURE). His kinship system is also homogamic, meaning all of the couples in his family married from inside their social group. (LECTURE). Brandon is not my participantââ¬â¢s real name, but will be used for the sake of this project for ethical reasons. In this report, I plan to make known step by step Brandonââ¬â¢s family and who inhabits it, what occupational patterns they have, what residence patterns they follow, and howShow MoreRelatedThe Democratic National Party vs. the Republican National Party1131 Words à |à 5 Pagesgovernment, they are a source of ideas for public policy, and they legally oppose each other (class citation), forcing compromises of ideas which are beneficial to the people of the United States of America. My family still live in the Philippines. I was still in 6th grade back then when my mom collapse one day when she is at a gathering in her friends house. She was pale and was like a white lady, because she is wearing white that day. She was sent to the hospital immediately. She underwent blood transfusion and a little IV therapy. The doctor prescribed her a medication for anemia. My mom is back to normal after a few days and returned to her daily routines. We too all thought that it will be the last of it or so we thought.My dad is as a merchant marine, so he is not always around. The only ones that are around the house are my mom and my elder sisters. My mom had a frequent headache and her personality changes. She sometimes became irrational and acted like a child. She also began neglected her responsibility and and her personal hygiene. We thought that she is becoming a deranged person so we consulted a to a psychiatrist. After a series of examination, the doctor cant seem to find any irregularities in her mental health. As I began getting alarmed at my moms condition my sister comforted me, ââ¬Å"Dont worry, well find ways to cure mom.â⬠. After that, my mom got examined at a University Hospital near our area. She underwent a CT scan to examine her brain. The result of the diagnose was brain tumor, it was caused by an abnormal growth of tissue in the brain. It is said that some tumors can be cancerous (malignant) or noncancerous (benign). Thankfully, her case is not a malignant type. It is also a good thing that my dad is member of a seamen union and has an insurance for our family so we didnt have any financial problems.I continued studying like usual, because I didnt want to cause more trouble to my elder sister and my father who is still overseas because of work. I suppressed my anxiety and just prayed fervently. As the day of the operation arrived, I stayed home and call other elder sister who is the one who stayed in the hospital every 30 minutes or so. I cant calm down that day. I always imagined the worst case scenario that can during the operation. Then I got a call from my sis after several hours of impatiently waiting for the news. ââ¬Å"It was a success!â⬠she exclaimed. My mother woke up few hours after the surgery and seemed okay. The next day, I visited my mom in the ICU in order to congratulate her for the success of the operation. I wasnt able to kiss or hug her because of safety issues, but I was glad that the operationis a success.After that, Me and my sis went to see the tumor that the neurosurgeon got in my moms head. It was about the size of an onion and reddish in color. Instead of getting fazed by it, I was astonished by the sight of it. Maybe it was because I watched too much gore movies that made me not to grossed out by it. I was also amazed by the doctor and made me want to see him but I wasnt able to. My mom was discharged from the hospital after two weeks of the operation. She was able to move normally, but the effects of the tumor is still can be clearly seen. But she was improving little by little. Watching my mom recovering made me happy and made me thinking of wanting to become a doctor.I became more studious ever since I realized my aspiration of becoming a doctor. Reading is the one thing I hated the most in the past. A few paragraph of sentences always make me wanting to sleep. But ever since I became interested in the field of science and I also started to read a lot more. Starting from the science books with a lot of illustrations until I got used to reading books with massive wall of text in it. I also develop a habit of reading every thing, like posters in the street or ingredients in a shampoo bottle, just to get every bit of information inside my little head.

Western progress Collide Essay Example For Students
Western progress Collide Essay In this short story by Attia Hosain, tradition clashes with western progress and culture. The story starts with a Muslim couple going out for a dinner party at a friends home. Straight away the wife, who is more cultural than her husband, seems to stand out, act different. We must take in consideration that this could be her first social party with others and is very self-conscious about how she looks and acts. She sat on the edge of the big chair, her shoulders drooping, nervously pulling her sari over hear head This sentence show us her body language and how she very anxious and shy. We will write a custom essay on Western progress Collide specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now The chair is described as big because Hosain wanted to make a comparison in size and make the Muslim wife seem smaller and irrelevant to some extent. The words: drooping and nervously show again how on the edge she is. The first image of an accident we come to is her view of the other lady(ies) and how they have dressed themselves up. The women held a wineglass in one hand and a cigarette in the other. She wondered how it felt The women had long nails, pointed and scarlet. She looked at her own unpainted and carefully short- wondering how anyone could eat, work, wash with those claws dipped in blood. This is her description and comparison of the other women around her. This also shows how she feels of the other women her husband is socializing with. There is another clash in the culture when she again compares herself with the jewelry on some of the other women. To her this is a gathering and people are to be dressed with jewelry to show and to be admired, but instead she notices the others bare wrists, like a widows. Comments were passed around about the women and she pleaded to be unnoticed and unobserved. When new guests arrived she was unsure if she was stand up of stay sitting during the introductions, but then her husband came to answer the problem with a hand on the shoulder, which was a sign to stay seated. Later on she realizes that how her clothes were not as simple as the others and were from a custom, but even if they were no one took notice. no one seemed to care for customs, or even know them Dress can separate people easily, but this is not the case, it is already been decided that she was different and her culture was unknown and unheard of. Her husband on the other side had turned into one of them after all the drinking, smoking and sins he had committed. The young lady was known as His wife and not by name, but to the reader we are just as not knowing as the people at the party. When it came to eating she decided to stay sitting, but was worried that the other guest would notice and find it rude or offensive. Later on a little girl came up to her and offered her some food and commented on the olives on the dish. The Muslim woman was unsure of what olives were but tried them. To her disgust she found them horrible. Food and cultures go together and are all different. The olives, from the western culture were rarely seen let alone tasted in her Muslim culture. There is a recurring image of the clothes and how skin should be covered and not to be seen in her view and culture. This deeply angers her once again. A few couples began to dance She felt a sick horror at the way the men held the women, at the closeness of their bodies I feel most action relating with lust or sexual actions are in discretion in her culture and now she feels that her husband has betrayed her and her culture.

Constitutional Basis essays
Constitutional Basis essays My belief is that the Constitution of the United States has offered us many rights, and at times, those rights seem to be in disagreement, while at other times, we would be in chaos without them. The Constitution states all people have the right to life, liberty and freedom. This is a bit idealistic because one persons liberty may infringe upon another persons freedom. The difficulties in discerning the Framers intentions increase both as time elapses and as we need to get more specific. Would the Framers have considered a wiretap to be a search? Would they have considered flag burning to be a form of speech? Would they have considered cable television to be a form of press? These inquiries are sometimes made because we view the Framers as wardens having issued commands, the meaning of which depends on their intentions. Framers advocated a particular idea suggests to us that it is a good idea, not merely that it reflected the preferences of the biggest or strongest group. The Constitution specifies the design of a mechanism to produce laws that are beneficial but not unjust; laws that, because they are both necessary and proper, bind us in conscience. Although, we cannot inspect every law individually, we need some confidence that the internal operation of the lawmaking process is designed to produce beneficial laws and to weed out those that violate the rights retained by the people. Only a Constitution that establishes a lawmaking process with the requisite built-in quality controls can impart legitimacy on the laws enacted in its name. A Constitution that fails to contain such internal quality control procedures tells us nothing about the justice of the laws it produces. Yet, who among the Framers of the Constitution ever imagined that the free speech clause might apply to government regulations designed to curtail the export of encryption software? Or that such an iss...

Working with families of Children with Disabilities - Essay Example Those services should be synchronized with extra activities that they may need since they have disabilities. The children have to be cared for differently giving them the environments that are specifically suited to the needs they require in the communities they reside. Children with disabilities have been a topic of discussion for a long period and the need to give the best care has been reviewed by numerous professionals. In this paper, the focus is on the new methods of dealing with the children with special need and making sure they receive the correct care that is resourceful in the development of their abilities and lives among the society. The laws passed decades ago are useful tools that make it very essential in the society to integrate the people with the special needs. Several researches deal with the disabled people in the society. However, the focus of this paper is the impact of involving the parents in the programs of their children with special needs. The main issue is the fact a parent is an important figure in their childrenââ¬â¢s lives making them very useful in the motivation and realization of their development as they grow up. The fact that families go through different stages before they get to advance in the care for the disabled makes it appropriate to have the time to listen to the family in order to make amends on the childrenââ¬â¢s health when the family is fully aware of the childrenââ¬â¢s situation.
